2017 Opens a New Portal

When one door closes, another opens. Or, in this case, another portal opens!

Since last Fall, we have been updating our software to the latest, safest, industry-standard applications available.  We started early so that we'd be ready for tax season, ... and we are!

This week the final function is being turned on:  The Portal system that allows us to securely exchange sensitive data and documents with you.

Secure Safe
Many of our clients have used an older portal system for several years. They have uploaded the financial information we need to prepare their taxes or financial statements. Then they've downloaded the completed tax returns and reports we have prepared.

The new portal makes it easier for us to share information with our clients through tighter integration with the tax and accounting applications. Fortunately, for clients the new portal page will look exactly like the one they've been using. However...

Later this week existing Portal users will receive a new Portal account password.

For security reasons, there is no master list of account passwords. So now that we are going to a new system, users will have to start out with a new temporary password.

We apologize for the inconvenience of having to sign on using new credentials, but we hope the integration in the new system will make the change worth it!

Client documents in the old portal will be moved to the new portal automatically.  Of course, if you notice a document missing that you need, please let us know by calling us at 415.433.4500.

What is all this "Portal" Talk?

If you are a client and have not been using the portal to exchange sensitive information with us, you're invited to sign up for a free portal account. Just talk to the partner you normally work with at 415.433.4500.

The CCH Axcess Portal is a service lets us securely share confidential data and documents with clients.  CCH is one of the top makers of software for accountants. Their Portal service provides a way to send and receive encrypted information via a secure data center.  Your information is locked up in a spot where physical access is limited, and duplicate remote storage guards against loss from nature disasters like earthquakes and local tragedies like theft and building fires.
    Building on Fire
Email is NOT secure!  Email is typically sent through the Internet without encryption. Someone with a monitor on the Internet could capture the stream of the email and rip off your information. In addition, most people don't safeguard their email accounts that well. They keep the email program open when they are at lunch, and coworkers wandering by can "accidently" see confidential documents and messages open in email.

Of course we still love doing business face-to-face.  You can bring by your sensitive documents and drop them off in person. If you have the time!

But, if you sometimes need to exchange information instantly, let us set you up on Portal.
